Contracts Proposal Templates

A contract template sets out the agreement between you and your client: the work, the price, the schedule and what happens if something changes or the relationship ends. These templates are a starting point, not legal advice, so have a qualified professional review them before you use them.

What to include in a contracts proposal

  • The parties and their contact details
  • A description of the work or services
  • Price and payment terms
  • Schedule or term of the agreement
  • Responsibilities of each side
  • How changes are approved
  • Termination, and what is owed if either side ends it
  • Signatures and dates

An example of a clear scope

The Contractor will perform the work described in Schedule A for the fixed price stated in Schedule B. Any change to the work must be agreed in writing by both parties before it begins.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using a template without having it reviewed for your location and type of work
  • Describing the work too vaguely
  • Not dating or signing the agreement
  • Leaving out how changes are handled
  • Not saying what happens if payment is late
